The Yanks of Westerlo were unlucky not to get something out of their game against Genk, while Jamath Shoffner’s side took part in an eight-goal thriller.

Westerlo 0 – 1 Genk

Bryan Reynolds was in the starting line-up for Westerlo when they hosted the Smurfs of Genk, while Griffin Yow sat out the first half and came on to start the second.

The Sunday matinee was an evenly matched contest regarding possession with both s ides holding onto the ball for 50% of the time however Westerlo dominated when it came to shots with 17 but unfortunately only one was on target. Genk had a meagre 7 shots in comparison but with 4 hitting the target and the one from Hyeon-Gyu Oh finding the back of the net late in the first half. Minutes later and minutes before the intermission Dogucan Haspolat fired a rocket from distance and although he beat the keeper, the crossbar made the save.

After being the only team from the Pro League to be dumped out of the Belgian Cup last week, the Gamecocks will have to lick their wounds once again and prepare for their next game which will be away to Charleroi.

Notes

Marlon Fossey was not on the team sheet when Standard Liege beat Charleroi by a 3-1 score in front of the Sclessin faithful. The win leaves them in ninth place. Next up will be an away game at Sint-Truiden.

Jamath Shoffner‘s Lierse SK side had the lead three times against Lommel but three times they let their opponents back into the game. With 3 minutes left on the clock, it looked like the visitors had nicked all the points but a 93rd minute red card allowed the American’s side to pinch a goal three minutes later for a vital point.

Shoffner’s boys, who now sit in 13th place in the Challenger League, face the Club Brugge Reserves next time out.

Devon De Corte played the last 10 minutes for Anderlecht Futures, as they drew 0-0 against Patro Eisden over the weekend. Next up they host Seraing.
