USMNT hopeful Charlie Kelman, has secured a permanent move from Queens Park Rangers to Charlton Athletic for a fee of £3.5 million on July 27th.
Kelman spent five years on thee books of QPR but was only able to manager 23 appearances, and no goals. Coming out of the Southend United youth structure (nods to FC Dallas training as a youth player as well), he once scored 61 goals in one season in 2017-2018. That form never materialized for him at QPR, and he was sent on loan.
Double stints at Gillingham and Leyton Orient, with another at Wigan Athletic in between, still saw him struggle to find his form, that is until last season when at Leyton Orient (still on loan), he hit the ground running in League One. Having only scored 12 goals in the previous four years, he bagged 21 goals in 46 matches to become the League One top goal scorer earning him the Golden Boot.
Though English born (Basldon, UK is northeast of London), Kelman has represented the USMNT on the Youth National front on several occasions. In his 20 caps for two USYNTs he bagged eight goals.
QPR apparently decided to cash in on his form, and Charlton Athletic, who have returned to the Championship through the play-offs, are the benefactors. Could a good season see Kelman called into action?
