Lecce 2 – 3 AC Milan
It was a good Saturday night for I Rossoneri when they travelled the length of Italy to take on US Lecce and came away with three points after coming back from a two goal deficit. Both Yunus Musah and Christian Pulisic were in the starting line-up with the New Yorker putting in a 74 minute shift and the Pennsylvanian going the full 90.
The Milanese probably expected an easier time against Lecce, who are on the verge of finding themselves in the relegation but it wasn’t to be. I Giallorossi came out of the starting blocks quickly and after just seven minutes Nikola Krstović put them ahead. The Montenegrin did it again 15 minutes into the second half to double the lead as they gave the visitors a lot of work to do.
The road to recovery started in the 68th minute when the Lecce defense was breached as Leao sent the ball into the box to Joao Felix. The Portuguese’s shot was going wide but when it struck Antonino Gallo, the deflection sent it into the back of the net.
In the 72nd minute Pulisic was brought down in the box and did the honors, placing the ball on the spot and sent it right down the middle as the Lecce keeper dove to the right. Down by two, the American got his team on level terms.
He did even better as he hit the winner in the 82nd minute when Leao slotted the ball into the box and saw Pulisic run onto it and slot it into an empty net.
The win leaves Milan in ninth place as they fight for a European spot. Next up they’ll take on Como.
Juventus 0 – 4 Atalanta
Tim Weah played 54 minutes while Weston McKennie saw the game out as their Juventus side were humiliated by Atalanta in Torino as third place took on fourth place.
The visitors got on the scoreboard just before the half hour mark when McKennie handled the ball in the box and prolific goal-getter Mateo Retegui did the honors, scoring his 22nd of the season. Three second half goals by Marten de Roon, Davide Zappacosta and Andre Lookman wrapped up the scoring on the night as the game ended in a half empty stadium, with the Juve fans haven’t seen enough.
They’ll hope to get back on track next time out when they go up against Fiorentina.
Notes
Gianluca Busio never got off the bench for Venezia when they went up against Como and ended the game a goal apiece. Next up is a visit from second place Napoli.
Jonathan Klinsmann was between the sticks for Cesena as they drew 1-1 with Brescia in Serie B action. They’ll look for three points when they host Spezia.
