Paxten Aaronson and Malik Tillman both found the back of the net twice in Eredivisie action.
Vitesse Arnhem 3 – 2 Fortuna Sittard
Having already been relegated and not recording a victory in over two months, Vitesse came from behind to take all the points from Fortuna on Sunday afternoon. Paxten Aaronson put his name on the score sheet twice, scoring the game’s first and last goals. The American went the distance for Arnhem in Game Day 31.
The 20-year-old midfielder struck after 22 minutes with a close range shot into the top left corner. The lead however was not taken into the locker room at the intermission because Inigo Cordoba used his head in the center of the box down at the other end to tie things up in the 44th minute.
The tides turned after the re-start because the visitors took a quick lead when Kaj Sierhuis was brought down in the box. Justin Lonwijk placed the ball down and blasted it into the top left hand corner. It was all square again in the 68th minute from Marco van Ginkel. The heroics were left to the Yank however when Kacper Kozlowski picked him out in the center of the box. His shot went right town the middle of the goal.
Vitesse have three games left before they start next season in the Eerste Divisie. Up next will be a visit to Utrecht.
Heerenveen 0 – 8 PSV
It was another goal-fest for the champions in waiting as the Farmers showed their hosts no respect by putting the ball into the back of their net on eight occasions. Malik Tillman went the full 90 minutes while adding a pair of goals while assisting on another. Ricardo Pepi put in a 12 minute shift while Sergino Dest spends the rest of the season out with his injury.
Tillman’s goals came just two minutes apart in the ninth and 11th minute. His first was a cross in the box by Jordan Teze when he headed into the back of the net from close range. Luuk de Jong assisted on the next one that the American hit from six yards out.
Sparta Rotterdam 1 – 0 Volendam
Zach Booth started on the right wing for Volendam when they traveled to Rotterdam to take on Sparta in this game where the visitors really needed those three points as they try to avoid joining Vitesse in the second flight next season.
Tobias Lauritsen’s second half goal was the difference between a point and no points for the Volendammers who are seven points out of the danger zone with just nine points left to fight for.
Next up will be a visit from fifth place Ajax.
Notes
Anthony Fontana never got off the bench for Zwolle’s 3-1 win over Heracles. Zwolle are 10 points clear of relegation so have already secured their Eredivisie place for next season. Next up is an away game vs. Feyenood.
