As PSV continues their dominance, the bookies aren’t taking bets on if they’ll be crowned Eredivisie champions, but when. Place your bet!

PSV 6 – 0 Vitesse

PSV Eindhoven followed up their 5-1 thrashing of AZ Alkmaar last weekend by beating up on Vitesse in their six-goal thriller.  Sergino Dest and Malik Tillman both started for the Farmers, but Ricardo Pepi missed out as he recovers from injury.  Tillman put in a 62-minute shift and contributed a goal to the cause.  For last place Arnhem, Paxten Aaronson played the full 90 minutes.

The PSV captain and prolific goal-getter, Luuk de Jong got the goal-fest underway after just 28 minutes when Guus Til set him up for his 25th strike of the season.  This was his first of the game but he would make it to 26 half way through the second half.

Tillman got in on the act just two minutes later when Dest put a cross into the box from the left and de Jong got his head on it but Iloy Room pushed it away, but only into the path of Til who was right in front of goal.  The Zambian born Dutchman could only hit the post, but his American colleague was on hand to slot it past the busy keeper.

The next goal, in the 37th minute came from a corner that found André Ramalho unmarked for his free header into the back of the net.  The game was already over before this goal but after the intermission, it was business as usual for the champions in waiting.  Johan Bakayako scored his 10th of the season, followed by de Jong’s, followed by a stoppage time goal from Hirving Lozano.

With just four games to go, PSV maintain their nine-point advantage over Feyenoord.  It’s only a matter of a week or two before the title is theirs.  Next up will be a road trip to Heerenveen, while Arnhem, who are not yet mathematically relegated, will host 11th place Fortuna Sittard.

Excelsior 4 – 0 Volendam

Zack Booth and his Volendammers were at the wrong end of a 4-0 defeat when they visited Rotterdam to take on Excelsior last Friday night.  It was a battle of two relegation threatened teams where Volembam are just one place ahead of last place Vitesse.  The American went the distance but was unable to add to his meager goal tally.

Lazaros Lamprou scored a goal before and after the intermission for the Rotterdam side, while Lance Duijvestijn and former Tottenham Academy player, Troy Parrott netted for the eighth time.

Booth and company will return to ROtterdam over the weekend, but this time to take on Sparta, who are just a couple of points outside of a European place.

Notes

Anthony Fontana played two minutes in Zwolle’s 2-2 draw against NEC Nijmegen. They’ll hope to do better next time out against Heracles.
