Josh Sargent scored in a third consecutive league match for Norwich, but sustained an unfortunate ankle injury in the process. Elsewhere, Duane Holmes scored late in the match to snatch all three points for Preston North End.

Huddersfield Town 0 – 4 Norwich City

There were mixed emotions from USMNT fans as Josh Sargent, who is in the form of his life, scored yet again for Norwich, but unfortunately sustained what looks to be a bad ankle injury with the international break around the corner.

The American capitalized on keeper Lee Nicholls’ hurried clearance to give the visitors the lead in the 11th minute, but unfortunately suffered a possible severe ankle injury, as suggested by manager David Wagner in his post-game comments. The former Werder Bremen forward only played 14 minutes, albeit with a huge impact.

Despite Sargent’s departure, Norwich’s offensive momentum and flow remained unaffected, leading to Ashley Barnes securing a 2-0 advantage from the penalty spot within 18 minutes after the impressive Jonathan Rowe was fouled.

Rowe’s close-range strike, marking his fourth league goal, was then followed by Adam Idah, Sargent’s substitute, stylishly sealing the points for the high-scoring Canaries. Their goal tally now stands at 13 in just four league matches.

Wagner stated that Sargent will be assessed later on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury.

“It looks like a serious ankle injury unfortunately. We will assess him tomorrow, and then we will have to wait and see how serious it actually is.”

Preston North End 2 – 1 Swansea City

Duane Holmes started and played further up the field for PNE to be more involved in the final third, which proved to be successful for Ryan Lowe’s side.

Harrison Ashby, the wing-back on loan from Newcastle United, showcased his elegance with a well-executed first-half goal, setting Swansea on track for their first Championship win under Michael Duff.

Midway through the second half, Andrew Hughes’ accurate header equalized for Preston, and later, Holmes slammed home the winner to secure the victory in the late stages of the match.

The twice-capped USMNT player achieved an 8.2 match rating on statistical tracker Fotmob, the second rating behind the other Preston goalscorer, Andrew Hughes. The American completed the most dribbles of the match, seeing 87 percent of his passes completed, creating a big chance for his team, and of course, smashing home the winner.

Holmes’ Preston and Sargent’s Norwich are both level on ten points and undefeated in the Championship for their respective clubs.

Notes

Haji Wright started on the bench for Coventry and came on to play out the final 20 minutes in their 0-0 draw against Lynden Gooch and Sunderland.

Gooch, Tyler Bindon, Charlie Kelman, Daryl Dike, Vaughn Covil, and Jonathan Tomkinson all didn’t feature for their respective clubs.
