U.S. women’s national team star Alex Morgan finished in second place in voting for the Best FIFA Women’s Player for 2022 at an awards ceremony held by the organization on Monday in Paris.

This was the second time for the 33-year-old to be named among the top three best women’s players in the world. In addition, she was named to the 2022 FIFA FIFPro Women’s World11, making the fifth time to receive the honor.

Spain’s Alexia Putellas would beat out Morgan for the top spot as she won the award for the second year in a row. England’s Beth Mead came in third.

The San Diego Wave FC captain had an impressive performance in 2022 as she led the National Women’s Soccer League in scoring with 15 goals and helped the national team win the 2022 Concacaf W Championship, booking their place in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The California native was up for FIFA’s individual honor in 2019 when she finished in second place behind her U.S. teammate Megan Rapinoe.
