German Recap: Pefok Held Goalless as Union Berlin Lose First Game

Jordan Pefok and Union Berlin were kept goalless as they lost their first Bundesliga game of the season to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 Union Berlin

Eintracht Frankfurt’s goals in the first half were more than enough to lead them to the shutout win over Union Berlin at Deutsche Bank Park to end the unbeaten record of the capital team.

Jordan Pefok started and played the entire game for Union, completing 77 percent of his passes and winning two duels along with taking three shots. Tim Chandler saw no action for Frankfurt as he remained on the bench.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 12th minute when former German international Mario Gotze tucked the ball into the back of the net after a pass from teammate Randal Kolo Muani.

The Eagles kept the pressure up and were rewarded with a second goal in the 42nd minute. Jesper Lindstrom intercepted an errant pass, sprinted towards the visitor’s goal, and skipped past three defenders before slotting his shot past goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow.

Union tried to get back into the game as they entered the second half. They even had a man advantage when Muani was sent off for a second yellow card. However, Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp was in fine form as he kept their opponents at bay.

Despite the loss, Union remains atop of the Bundesliga standings on 17 points.
