Durkin Leaves Belgium for DC United Return

With just two games left to the regular season of the Belgian Pro League, and Sint-Truiden having a chance of finishing in the last playoff spot, their American midfielder, Chris Drukin, has decided that it was time to return home to continue his career in MLS

The Virginia native joined the Belgian side on loan from DC United in the summer of 2019 and turned the move into a permanent deal a year later for an estimated $1.1 million. The 22 year-old Durkin played 68 times for the Canaries and registered two goals in his three seasons.

Through the STVV website, the American addressed the fans by saying, “thank you very much for this amazing opportunity that you gave me [fulfilling] my dream to come to Europe. I really appreciate it.There were some amazing moments and I appreciate everything you gave me. I am extremely grateful and will never forget it.”

Durkin has returned to MLS under the league’s “allocation process” which is something of a draft system for former league players. He was selected by Houston Dynamo and immediately sent to his former club, DC United.

Yanks Abroad enjoyed covering this young man during his European adventure and wish him all the best back home.
