Swiss Recap: Jordan Pefok Held Goalless As Young Boys Lose

It was a rare quiet day for Jordan Pefok as he was not on the scoresheet for Young Boys in their defeat to the Swiss Super League leaders FC Zurich.

Young Boys 1-2 FC Zurich

Young Boys now find themselves in a fight to claim a European place as they proved to be no match for the league leaders FC Zurich in their defeat at Stadion Wankdorf.

Jordan Pefok was active throughout his 64-minute shift, completing 67 percent of his passes and winning five duels, as he set up a couple of his teammates for chances to score.

Both sides had chances in the first half, but neither could find the back of the net as it ended scoreless.

It was much of the same as the game went to the second as the hosts had the advantage. They thought they had finally broken the scoreless deadlock in the 62nd minute when Pefok headed the ball in, but the referee would disallow it. Elia Meschack was singled out for committing a foul in the area in the run-up to the goal.

The game finally saw its first goal in the 74th minute when Zurich’s Bla Kramer slotted past Young Boy’s goalkeeper David von Ballmoos. They doubled their lead five minutes later through Antonio Marchesano as he pounced on the loose ball to punch it home.

Young Boys got a consolation goal in stoppage time as Vincent Sierro scored from a corner kick.

The current champions sit in third place in the standings with 45 points, just ahead of fourth-place Lugano on goal difference.

Note

Down in the second-tier Challenge League, Lucas Pos went the distance for Stade Lausanne-Ouchy as they score a late goal to salvage a point in their 1-1 draw with Wil.
