Monchengladbach cut the deficit in the 42nd minute through Marcus Thuram. Alassane Plea’s lofted ball into the area found the Frenchman who headed it past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Koen Casteels.
The hosts were on the hunt for the equalizer in the second half and Wolfsburg did its best to ward off any attack from them. However, they would find themselves a man down in the 70th minute when Maxence Lacroix was shown a red card for his foul on Thuram.
That gave the Foals hope for a goal and they got it in the 82nd minute when Breel Embolo headed in a cross from Plea.
