Italian Recap: Novakovich Assists in Frosinone Win

Andrija Novakovich made the most of his limited time on the field, assisting on Frosinone’s final goal in their big win over Reggina.

Frosinone 3 – 0 Reggina

A run of three games without a win had dropped Frosinone out of the six-team promotion playoff group, adding pressure on the team to stop their slide before falling into midtable mediocrity.

As has been the case in recent games, Novakovich was left to the bench as a substitute option by head coach Fabio Grosso, but had a significant impact after entering the game in the 82nd minute.

Following a scoreless first half, the hosts took the lead in the 48th minute with Gabriel Charpentier heading in from six yards out on a corner. They made it 2-0 midway through the half, as Camillo Ciano gained control of corner that was allowed to drop in front of goal, poking it over the line amidst a crowd of players.

Reggina thought they had pulled one back a few minutes later when 34 year-old Jeremy Menez fought off two defenders and put away his chip from the middle of the area, but the goal was whistled back for offside.

Novakovich entered for Ciano with eight minutes left on the clock, and had a quick impact; playing a quick give-and-go with Luigi Canotto on a fast counter in the 89th minute, giving the final lay-off to provide his teammate space in the area for a shot to the left side of goal for the final 3-0 scoreline.

Frosinone climb back into the playoff spots at the expense of Ascoli, and are now in eighth place. Novakovich and his teammates will hope to build upon their victory on Sunday when they visit tenth-place Cittadella.

Anthony Fontana is injured and did not suit up for Ascoli in their 2-0 loss at Brescia. Ascoli drop out of the promotion playoff spots, and will be back in action on Sunday with a home game against Crotone. Giuseppe Barone is no longer with the club after terminating his contract and returning stateside.
