Swiss Recap: Jordan Pefok Scores Again as Young Boys Share Points

Jordan Pefok put away another goal for Young Boys, but they would concede late in the game to eventually share the points with Grasshopper Zurich.

Grasshopper Zurich 2-2 Young Boys

Young Boys had a chance to cut the points gap on the league leaders, FC Zurich, but a stoppage-time goal saw them only come away with a point against Grasshopper Zurich at Stadion Letzigrund.

Jordan Pefok was the star man of the game, completing 70 percent of his passes and winning eight duels along with two shots on target and an assist.

It was a rather quiet first interval, but the guests came close to breaking the scoreless deadlock just after the half-hour mark when Pefok headed the ball towards goal. However, Grasshopper goalkeeper Andre Moreira would block the attempt.

Things picked up in the second half when the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty for Young Boys. Dominik Schmid was the guilty party as he tackled Edimilson Fernandes from behind.

Pefok stepped up to put away the spot-kick in the 53rd minute, giving him a league-leading 15 goals on the season (20 goals in all competitions).

However, their lead didn’t last for long as Grasshopper leveled the score seven minutes later when Georg Margreitter headed the ball in from a corner kick.

Young Boys retook the lead after 77 minutes from a free-kick. Pefok’s glancing header found Felix Mambimbi, who steered the ball home from just inside the six-yard box.

The game should have been done and dusted at this point, but Grasshopper scored the equalizer in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Bendeguz Bolla was left unmarked in the area to send his strike into the back of the net.

The draw leaves Young Boys in second place in the standings with 40 points, ten points behind leaders FC Zurich.
