Horan Joins Olympique Lyon on Loan

The Portland Thorns have announced that they have loaned USA international Lindsey Horan to Olympique Lyonnais of the French D1 Féminine until June 2023.

This will be the United States Female Player of the Year’s second stint in France as she signed on with Paris Saint Germain in 2016 and spent four seasons in the French capital, scoring 46 goals in 58 appearances.

According to Thorns GM Karina LeBlanc, “when Lindsey signed her long-term contract with the Thorns in 2020 she came to us to discuss pursuing an opportunity to play in Europe, and we have honored that request.”

In order to fulfill the original obligation to her NWSL team, Horan has extended her contract with them, keeping her on the books until 2025.

The 2019 World Cup winner is joining a very dominant French teams that has not only won eight of the last nine league titles (losing out to PSG last season) but has also dominated the UEFA Women’s Champions League with seven titles.

Lyon has a history of signing American players with Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Hope Solo being just a few American women who have represented Les Lyonnaises.  Horan will line up with current national team mate Catarina Macario, who is in her first season in Lyon.

The Colorado native has been a part of the USWNT camp in Austin, Texas and will also take part in the SheBelieves Cup next month when the USA faces Czech Republic, New Zealand and Iceland.
