Efford Trades Belgium for Scotland

Motherwell FC of the Scottish Premiership have confirmed via their website that they have signed American winger Joe Efford from Waasland-Beveren of the Belgian First Division B, the second tier of Belgian soccer.

“We are very happy to bring Joe to the club and add to our attacking options,” the Motherwell manager, Graham Alexander said.

“He has a great work ethic, real pace and goal scoring abilities from either side of the front three.  He’s at a great age and after speaking with him, I know he is highly motivated to succeed at Motherwell.”

The Georgia native signed on with the Flemish side back in the summer of 2020 after his contract with Greek team Ergotelis ended.  When he joined Beveren, they were in the Belgian top flight, but Efford’s two goals in his 19 appearances that season could not help them maintain Pro League status.

The move to Motherwell was for an undisclosed fee and is an 18 month deal that will keep him in Scotland until next summer.

Efford could possibly feature on Saturday when the Steelmen travel to Edinburgh to take on Hearts of Midlothan.
