Reynolds Loan to Kortrijk in Belgium Confirmed

AS Roma and former FC Dallas defender Bryan Reynolds has been loaned to Belgian top-flight team KV Kortrijk for the remainder of the season, the team confirmed on Sunday afternoon.

Reynolds, who has one appearance for the United States national team, had found his chances for competitive action under Roma head coach Jose Mourinho extremely limited this season.

He made a total of two appearances, one as a starter in a group game of the Europa Conference League, and the other in the final minute to help mop up an early Serie A game in September.

“KV Kortrijk came to an agreement with the Italian Serie A club AS Roma about the lease of 20-year-old Bryan Reynolds with immediate effect,” Kortrijk announced on their website on Sunday, giving further details, “The club lends Reynolds to KVK until the end of the season.”

The loan to the current eighth-place team in Belgium will guarantee at least 12 chances for him to take the field, possibly more depending on where the team referred to as “The Guys” finish the current phase of the season.

Due to scheduling complications resulting from two years of disruptions by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Belgian top-flight season technically ends after the 34th round of games on the weekend of April 9, after which only the top eight teams enter short playoff rounds for the title and various European spots.

The team has a busy schedule, and will play through the upcoming international window. They first visit sixth-place RSC Charleroi on Tuesday, before returning home to host reigning champions and current second-place Brugge five days later.

Kortrijk is headed by Karim Belhocine, who is in his second spell as coach of the team, with a two-season stay at Charleroi directly before. He typically likes to play a back-four, which will most likely feature Reynolds at his natural position as a direct replacement for Gilles Dewaele, who transferred to Standard Liege on January 12.

With Lucas Rougeaux and Tsuyoshi Watanabe, both of whom are typically deployed as central defenders, filling in on the right in Kortrijk’s last two games, this could already put Reynolds in place for an appearance, if not the start, on Tuesday.
