Daryl Dike Sidelined with Hamstring Injury

Daryl Dike pulled up with an injury in his home debut for West Bromwich Albion, and is set to miss two weeks with a hamstring problem according to the team’s coach.

Dike played 31 minutes in his first game last Saturday in West Brom’s 1-0 defeat at Queens Park Rangers, but was handed his full starting debut at home for their home game against Peterborough by head coach Valérien Ismaël, only to be forced off in the 53rd minute through a hamstring injury.

Ismaël told Birmingham Live: “We will see on Monday when he has a scan, but for sure the next two games he will miss because we cannot afford to take any risks now, especially after the Millwall game we have another 11 days.”

“Now he can have 20 days to get ready for the Sheffield United game if the injury is not too bad,” he concluded, referring to their midweek road game in Sheffield on Feb. 9.

The Baggies are in the thick of the promotion battle, currently in fifth place in the Championship and in line for a spot in the four-team playoff for a berth in the Premier League.

Dike was left off of Gregg Berlhalter’s USMNT roster that was announced on Friday night, but will hope to catch fire over the final three months of the season, and regain the international boss’s confidence in order to fight for a place at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
