Report: Ricardo Pepi to Join VfL Wolfsburg in Record Transfer

It appears the bidding war for Ricardo Pepi has been settled as it has been reported that German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg will bring in the forward from FC Dallas when the January transfer window opens.

For months there has been speculation as to where the 18-year-old would end up after impressing during the recently concluded Major League Soccer season, in which he scored 13 goals in 31 appearances, and with the U.S. men’s national team.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Ajax, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, and a host of other clubs were reportedly interested in signing Pepi.

Now, according to a report from Transfermarkt on Sunday, it looks like the Wolves have won the race to sign the Texas native.

FC Dallas will receive 10 million dollars upfront along with bonus payments based on Pepi’s performances at Wolfsburg.

The transfer, once confirmed, will make Pepi the most expensive American homegrown player, breaking the record previously held by the likes of Gianluca Busio, Brenden Aaronson, and Bryan Reynolds.
